Sonco Fence was founded by Sonny Long in 1976, in Bladensburg, MD (just outside Washington, DC). We started as a material distributor for fence contractors in the metropolitan area. We quickly captured a large market share and began reaching out to new customers by opening new branches along the east coast and shipping material nationwide.

In the early 1980’s we expanded into manufacturing, weaving our own chain link mesh and building gates for fence contractors. It was through this growth and development that the Rent-A-Guard Fence Panel was born. Within a short period of time, contractors learned about the advantages of using Rent-A-guard Panels to secure their projects, replacing most in-ground temporary fence systems. Rent-A-Guard Panels simplified temporary fencing by allowing customers to secure their work areas quickly, while providing the customer flexibility to change the layout at a moments notice. Today, most construction sites are surrounded by a temporary fence panel system.

 

Rent-A-Guard became an important part of the Special Events Industry after we received a few calls from event organizers, looking to fence outdoor areas where they hadn’t before - they were looking for a means to convert their free outdoor events into paid-admission venues by fencing-off the areas and charging admission. It wasn’t long before event planners and associations everywhere began ordering Rent-A-Guard Fence Panels and Barricades for concerts, festivals and celebrations. Today, Sonco is a major supplier of Event Fence and Barricades to the Special Events Industry and a manufacturer and distributor of fence material and barricades worldwide.
